Terms & Conditions
Medicare & Referrals
Psychology sessions at The Gut-Brain Clinic Lawrence & Co Psychology may be eligible for a Medicare rebate under the Better Access initiative. To claim a rebate you need:
-
A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHCP) completed by your GP or psychiatrist; and
-
A current referral in place before your appointment, including your MHCP
Medicare covers up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year under Better Access. It's your responsibility to keep track of your remaining sessions and to renew your referral before it expires.
If you don't have a valid referral at the time of your appointment, the full fee applies. We can't backdate Medicare claims.
By booking with us, you authorise us to submit your Medicare claim on your behalf. If a claim is rejected or clawed back because of incorrect details you provided, the full fee remains your responsibility.
Gut Hypnotherapy sessions are not Medicare rebatable.

Cancellations & No-Shows
We ask for at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. This allows us to offer the time to someone else.
If you cancel late or don't attend without notice, the full fee of the appointment will apply.
These fees are not Medicare rebatable. In genuine emergencies, fees may be waived at our discretion.
Repeated cancellations may result in a prepayment requirement for future sessions. We will talk to you before taking this step.
We will always give you as much notice as possible if your practitioner needs to cancel. Any session cancelled by us will be rescheduled at no cost to you.

Confidentiality
Everything you share with your practitioner is confidential. There are a small number of situations where we may need to share information without your consent:
-
If there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to you or someone else;
-
If we are required to by law or court order;
-
If mandatory reporting obligations apply (for example, child protection); or
-
If a registered health practitioner is required to notify AHPRA of a serious concern about another practitioner.
Where possible, we will discuss any disclosure with you first. Your practitioner will explain these limits at your first appointment.

These terms apply to all services provided by Lawrence & Co Health Services Pty Ltd, trading as Lawrence & Co Psychology and The Gut-Brain Clinic. By booking an appointment, you agree to these terms. Please read them — they're written to be straightforward.

A separate Privacy Policy covers how we collect, store and use your personal information.

Scope of Services
Lawrence & Co Psychology provides psychological assessment and therapy delivered by AHPRA-registered psychologists.
The Gut-Brain Clinic provides gut-directed hypnotherapy and related services for IBS and functional gut conditions. These services are not medical treatment and do not replace the advice of your GP or gastroenterologist.

Both services are available in-person and via telehealth. Telehealth sessions must be conducted from a private location, and practitioners can only see clients located in Australia.
Our services are not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in immediate danger or need urgent help, please call 000 or go to your nearest emergency department.

Eligibility & Consent
To access our services you need to:
-
Be 18 or older (or have a parent or guardian attend and consent on your behalf);
-
Be able to give informed consent; and
-
Give us accurate information about your health history and current situation.
For Gut-Brain Clinic services, you must have seen a GP or gastroenterologist before your first appointment and confirmed you have medical clearance to participate in hypnotherapy. We reserve the right to decline services if we have clinical concerns about suitability.
Before starting, we will explain what the service involves, its benefits, risks and limitations. You can ask questions and take time to decide. You also have the right to withdraw consent at any time - just let your practitioner know and we will discuss what this means for your care.
Consent isn't a one-off process. We'll check in with you roughly every 12 months, or sooner if there's a significant change to your treatment.

Fees and Payment
Our current fees are listed on our websites and provided before your first appointment. Payment is due prior to your next appointment, and future bookings may not proceed until the account is settled.
We accept online payments and direct deposit.
Accounts not resolved after a reasonable period may be referred to a debt collection service.
This doesn't affect our duty of care. If you are in crisis, we will always help with safety planning regardless of your account status.
Your Records
We keep clinical records as required by AHPRA and relevant legislation. Records for adult clients are kept for at least 7 years. For clients who were under 18 when they were seen, records are kept until they turn 25 (or 7 years from the last entry, whichever is longer).
You can request access to your records at any time. Please contact your clinic in writing and we will respond within 30 days. If you think something in your records is incorrect, let us know and we'll look into it.

Ending the Relationship
You can stop seeing us at any time. We encourage you to let your practitioner know so we can support a smooth transition.
We may end the relationship if there are repeated breaches of these terms, if our services are no longer clinically appropriate for you, or in circumstances outside our control. We will give you reasonable written notice and provide referrals to other services where relevant.
We will never end care during a crisis without a safety plan in place.
