The Gut-Brain Clinic is committed to making specialist gut care attainable. As a private clinic, you can book sessions with or without a referral from your GP or gastroenterologist.
We offer Medicare rebates for psychology & dietetics services, private health rebates and flexible payment options to make integrated gut health care more accessible. All services are available in-person or via telehealth.
Psychology Services
The Australian Psychological Society (APS) suggests a standard fee of $311 for a 60 minute appointment. Our fees reflect the specialised service we provide.

Psychology appointments are Medicare rebatable with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP (up to 10 per year).

Gut Hypnotherapy
Gut-directed hypnotherapy is a specialised service that is not currently Medicare rebated in Australia. Research shows that at least six sessions are necessary to see improvement in symptoms.

Medicare Rebates
Our psychologists and dietitians are all AHPRA-registered Medicare providers. This means that we can process rebates for you, provided you have a relevant care plan from your GP as listed above.

Medicare rebates and private health insurance cannot be claimed in the same session.

Medicare does not cover cancellation fees.

Gut hypnotherapy is not covered by Medicare currently.
Private Health Cover
If you have private health cover with extras, you may be eligible for rebates on our services.

Coverage varies significantly by fund - please check with your insurer for availability and rebate amounts. Medicare rebates and private health insurance cannot be claimed in the same session.
Third Party Coverage (NDIS, DVA, WorkCover)
While we cannot process claims directly through programs like WorkCover, NDIS, or DVA, we can provide detailed invoices and receipts if you've received prior approval for treatment.

Standard fees apply for all third-party referrals, and payment is required on the day of service.
Cancellation Policy
Life happens, and we understand that sometimes you need to reschedule. To ensure fair access for all patients:

48 hours' notice required for cancellations or rescheduling

Late cancellations (less than 48 hours) incur the full session fee

No-shows are charged the full session fee

Cancellation fees cannot be claimed by Medicare or private health insurance. Outstanding cancellation fees must be paid before your next appointment.
Options for Flexibility
Feeling unwell? Switch to a telehealth session instead of cancelling.
Telehealth technical issues? We'll reschedule without penalty if technology fails on our end.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral from my GP or Gastroenterologist?
No referral is required for psychology or dietetics services, However a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP is recommended to access Medicare rebates for psychology sessions or a Chronic Condition Care plan for dietetics. For gut hypnotherapy, we require a referral confirming your diagnosis in order to proceed, given the nature of the therapy.

Can I claim multiple services on the same day?
Yes, you can have psychology, gut hypnotherapy, and dietetics appointments on the same day. Each service can be claimed separately through appropriate channels.

What if I can only afford one service?
Start with whichever service feels most relevant to your needs. We can always add other services later as your situation allows. Give us a call if you need more information to help you decide.

Are there additional costs for audio recordings or resources?
No, all audio recordings for gut-directed hypnotherapy and educational resources are included in your session fees at no extra charge.
